Default Trip report - Snow Summit - 12/2/10

In my backpack, under normal conditions, I have a cable lock, a multi-
tool, sunscreen, ibuprofin, pepcid, cough drops, a couple of bandaids,
spare gloves, stocking cap (or my broadbrim hat if it's cold enough
that I'm wearing the socking cap), spare socks, whatever I packed for
lunch, a half-liter bottle of water, and what ever layers I have
removed as the day warmed up. My current bag is my son's former
school book bag, a solid Adidas bag with three external zippers and
two internal pockets.

This is for Big Bear, right? I normally carry more than that in my PURSE!

While skiing I carry my car keys, a chapstick, contact rewetting drops,
GPS and/or camera MAYBE, and my CC etc. to buy my lift ticket. Last
Wednesday I wore a turtleneck and a shell jacket, but I switched to a
t-shirt and neon green bike windbreaker at 10:30. The windbreaker was
just because I don't want to get sunburn or, if I fall, snowburn.
Fortunately I don't fall much and the color means a slightly smaller
chance of being sideswiped by a near-blind boarder. I can't remember
when it was cold enough to need a hat, but I have very thick hair. For
cold weather I add a sweater and a neck gaiter to cover my face on the
ride up.

If I don't need to get gas, I get there earlier and get a better parking
place. I'm going to look for a bike cable lock tomorrow...

BTW, Chair 1 runs at 8.9-9.3 mph. I think they used to claim 6 mph.

Caltrans promised that the road to Waterman would be open today. They lied.

It's not a question of being able to afford it, it's a question of
whether or not it's worth what it costs. Very different. I'm sure
that any one of us, with one glaring exception, of course, could AFFORD
a $250 meal now and again, but I, for one, would not be able to emjoy
eating something that cost more than a computer.

OTOH, shopping at yard sales distorts one's value system. When a good
down jacket and a chocolate muffin cost the same thing, the cognitive
dissonance becomes nearly unbearable.

slap slap Speak English, lady.

I like a bargain, too. But wake up! There's a big difference between
a two dollar hooker and a two hundred dollar hooker. (Like you would
know.) Please, let me rephrase this. There is a big difference
between a two dollar bottle of wine and a two hundred dollar bottle of
wine. Understand?

Vote for Palin-Brown in 2012. Repeal the nightmares.

Merry Christmas everyone. God bless us all.

Actually, Horvie, she would know the difference. She knows how much
she got paid.

Yep. One leaves you broke, the other leaves you with $198 to buy 99 more
bottles and throw a big party for the few remaining ski bums [cf other
thread.]

Wow. Stone cold alcoholic logic. No surprise around this ********:
one of the reasons many of you freaks hate me is because I quit. And
you can't.

Unless I oversleep, I'll be hitting Bear Mt. tomorrow. I'm guessing
from the lift report (Chair 8 and Geronimo not open yet) that I'll
only be there a couple of hours.

I carry whatever is in my pockets, and I have a debit card with a big
balance. that covers everything I need.

There's no need to mention all the clothes you wear. Underneath my
clothes, I ski naked.

Report back. When Geronimo opens (I don't think I ever skied it back
when I was going there instead of SS) I think I'll give BM a shot. If
the trams take only 10 minutes and I get tired early anyway, I might as
well give it a shot.
