Where are the skiing posts? The World Cup season has started!
The subject says it all: This weekend saw the Düsseldorf sprint races,
but there's not a single post about them on my news server. :-( Terje -- - "almost all programming can be viewed as an exercise in caching" |

there has been alot of internet activity ragarding Dusseldorf this
weekend. Also, Andrew Newell did well in Dusseldorf. Second place in small final. He was also the only USA skier last season with a world cup medal (WC in China). Watch him closely this season. |

Andy, still feeling the effects of a cold, skied from the front in the
B final and was edged at the line. It was a narrow course with six skiers a run. Eldar Roenning was the only one in the main finals that won from the front, and there was a crash right behind him not so far from the finish. Oystein Pettersen was the hero of the day. In the quarters his pole broke coming out of the start and still won the heat. He was very tired, but recovered enough to finish second to Roenning at the end. Roenning won the rollerski fest over the summer and looks strong. The USST report about the team sprint was incorrect. Lind and Larsson beat Roenning and Pettersen. Northug and Hetland were fourth, 7.5 seconds back. wrote: there has been alot of internet activity ragarding Dusseldorf this weekend. Also, Andrew Newell did well in Dusseldorf. Terje,
Maybe you saw the WC races, but pigs will fly and land on an icy runway in hell before a WC xc race is shown on TV around here. No mention is ever made of the Birkie on MPLS TV stations. In fact, I was surprised to see Olympic coverage of some xc races. Think about a total ban on xc TV coverage in Norway. Society would crumble. (I have no idea how much coverage it gets, but I'm guessing quite a bit.) Another thing is that it seems the old timers here (Bradley, Tegeder, JW...) don't seem to be hitting the keyboards much. With the warm winters, JT (Tegeder that is) has taken a real liking to road biking, mt biking, single speeds, cyclocross, building bikes, bike swaps.... Tegeder was the US king fan of World Cup. A usual winter weekend will only have about 4-12 hours of uninterrupted coverage of various skiing/biathlon/jumping/alpine events, with the two first getting the largest shares. :-) Another thing is that it seems the old timers here (Bradley, Tegeder, JW...) don't seem to be hitting the keyboards much. Say hello to him if/when you meet, as you know I stayed at his home around 1997, I think we all met for BBQ, right? Terje Jay -- - "almost all programming can be viewed as an exercise in caching" |

Besides being allowed to kick the football, rugby players can hold on to it and run. And real football players do not use padding, shin guards or helmets. Of course, that could be why Andy needs to trek with a knee brace. There are also two kinds of North American football -- Canadian and the one played in the United States. Edgar PS When I was in Oslo a couple of years ago, NRK broadcasted a skiing or biathon event every afternoon. America's public broadcasting television stations broadcast Sesame Street during the afternoon but no skiing. |
