Default any reports on the Methow Valley or Silver Star areas?

Thinking of either the Methow Valley of WA.....or the Vernon B.C. area
(Silver Star, Sovereign Lake) around Jan. 1. Any reports?

Mark

Mark,

I wrote to Methow Valley last week, www.mvsta.com. They replied that
there was good skiing and plenty of snow.

I just returned from Silver Star and the skiing there and at Sovereign
Lake is amazing right now. The groomer at Sovereign Lake told my friend
it is a record year for snowfall so far, even after a slow start.

Here's Sovereign Lakes website, I've heard that the skiing is awesome as usual. Website is very informative with weather conditions and kick wasx of the day suggestion along with much more. Unfortunately, I don't know about the Methow Valley.
Cheers

Just came back from three glorious days skiing. More snow this year than
usual. Perfect temps around 25 degrees.

All the cross country ski areas in the Vernon area have great skiing. You
don't have to go to as high elevation as Sovereign.

There has been so much snow falling recently the only problem is having the
groomers keep up with the new snow.

How nice. While here in the east I'm driving several hours to use
rock skis. Oh joy.

Someone asked where --- in New York State Van Hoevenberg will likely
be open for a day or too, and Garnet Hill too. Maybe some stuff in
the Tug Hill region.

The good thing nowadays is that it's so easy to check weather and snow
conditions on the Web (and wonder why Prospect hasn't updated its Conditions
page since last Saturday), and then cancel motel reservations on the Web --
and with irrepressible hope, make new reservations for later dates.

The really good new things in Union county New Jersey a half hour from
Manhattan are lots more smooth asphalt and _fan_ support. Like a few days
ago doing V2 thru Elizabeth, some ladies are calling "Viva Viva". A few
double poles and tucking it down Clinton Av into Newark, and the boyz are
waving me over to ask me what it's about.

I never got any fan response like that while skiing on snow in the Okanagan
valley.

My experience out on the streets southern NY - NJ - eastern PA is that there
is no problem finding lots of people of lots of ages and lots of
"non-nordic" ethnic backgrounds who instantly grasp the essential coolness
of gliding around and using sticks to help. The problem with the future
popularity of XC skiing is that we chose to do most of our skiing far away
from most of our best fans.

Ken
