My favorite lost luggage story

Flew to DC on business; United managed to lose my bag. Cleverly I packed
a clean pair of Levis in carry-on so I was good to go for the business
meeting next day.

United was good-to-their-word; they delivered the missing bag the next
evening, right to the hotel. Didn't say a word about it being empty. I
suppose lots of their passengers fly with empty checked bags, but I was
somewhat taken aback. They never did make it good, either - they wore me
down with paperwork until I gave up.

Rental boots suck. I have newfound respect for all those newbies

I thought I'd do my pre season at home on rentals, and then buy at leisure.
First day, I took them back and went and bought my Atomic widebodies. When
I took the rentals back, I discovered taht one was in "walk" mode. Now, I
love gear, and had no idea. how the hell would the average punter know? they
wouldn't. I did feel very odd on them but thought they were just soft
boots. probably helped with the fore-aft balance.

I got news for you. It's not the equipment that makes the skier.

First time I took a friend of mine skiing, he was on rental gear, old
skool rear-entry boots. At one point, I saw him fall, and watched as his
ankle bent at a very un-natural angle. I was sure he'd broken his leg
just above the boot cuff... When I went over to help him, he was already
standing. Turns out, he'd been skiing all afternoon with the rear latch
unclipped, and during the fall, I saw him flopping about in the boot. His
only comment was that he was wondering why the boots felt much more
comforable than when he first put them on in the morning.

You missplelled NorthWorst.

Do Not... repeat Do NOT fly NorthWorst.. On last years Denali trip
they completely hosed us on overbaggage charges. After we watched
several people come out at 52 lbs on their fish boxes packed by
commercial outfits that *know* things need to be under fifty, we too
came out a couiple of pounds over. When we pulled our bags off, the
empty scale read four pounds. Then they tried to charge us for the
sleds which weighed about a pound each. Then they refused to honor the
fact that we'd missed our flights due to equipment problems at another
carriier and charged us for changing flights. JRH flew another carrier
and paid nothing for overbaggage or changes. DO NOT fly NorthWorst.

Agree completely. Unfortunately, they have a near monopoly in Detroit,
so it's either fly with them or not fly at all. Believe me, I go for
other options whenever available.

A TRULY dedicated skier would call that enough for a week. But you forgot
the duct tape!

Gotta admit my paranoia as well. I know I'm getting to the slopes ok if I
keep my boots and enough to ski with in my bag. It's never going to get
away from me until I'm there.

I had a bag delayed once on Delta, but I got it back the next night. Kind
of a pain, but I got it. Fortunately, it was still packed.... never had
one really LOST.

them through the hazards and vagaries of airline travel as
carry-on, never allowing them to be separated from myself, lest I
endure the humiliation, pain, and ****-poor control of the
inferior boots of the rental counter.

Geez, I thought that was SOP. Check everything but yer prized footwear.

I carry on my boots, plus 1 pair ski socks, and base layers top and bottom
stuffed inside the boots. I also put bib pants and gloves in the bag.
That way, even if they screw up, I'm good to go for one day.
