Tioga Pass

Has anyone been up to Tioga Pass lately? Or skied into Tuolomne
Meadows? Been thinking of spending a bit of time up there, but have
been wondering about current conditions. I'm thinking that for a first
time visit in winter I'd do the luxury route and stay at Tioga Pass
Resort.

If you are going to stay at Tioga Pass, calling them should
get some info. If looking out the window isn't helpful, they
probably have reports from customers who have been up there.

I just got back from four days at Mammoth. The snow conditions were
excellent, 12 - 14 foot base with windpack/winddrift powder and some
really nice powder here and there in the trees and around the
boundaries. Cold, really cold. I think today it got above freezing
for the first time at about 8,000 ft.

Tioga is a bit North from there but I would think the conditions would
be similar, quite good, basically.

It appears to be another banner year for the Sierra, but similar to
last year we are not getting typical maritime snowpack nor are we
getting warm spells between storms for the snow to settle out and
stabilize. I would be extremely avalanche aware if I went into the
backcountry with conditions as they are now, but if I had the time and
opportunity I would go because there are many b/c lines in nice light
powder out there, I was looking at them just this morning.
