Default XC is funny: total relaxation + total pain

I just thought of something.

In an XC race you're trying to be as relaxed as possible and yet you're
also in the most pain you can stand.

Funny.

OK, I suppose that's how it is in all these aerobic sports. Or maybe all
sport. ? Tension in the wrong place is never good in sport.

But it is funny how relaxation and suffering can go hand in hand.

Huh? All pump? No, they have to be totally maxxed plus totally relaxed
or they SCREW UP. It's a total ticket to injury, too, to not be doing
both at the same time. If ya think about it. Too much.

I don't race so I can't blame xc for pain, just a decent fast heart rate
sometimes, but I do find quiet tours through the woods lead to a zen-like
calm and occasionally insightful/good ideas.
