Default Storage Life of Waxes

This question came up at a wax clinic and no-one (myself included) knew
the answer: how long can you keep waxes before they are ineffective?
Is there a shelf life (or a half-life)? This applies to both grip and
glide waxes. For my part, I've got waxes left over from the last
century that *seem* to still work as they did when they were new, but I
have no definitive proof that this is true.

I've been pondering this question also. I still have some Swix "Dura-Glide"
skating wax, left over from the 90's (or was it the 80's?). I wonder if
fluorocarbon waxes have less "shelf life" than their hydrocarbon cousins.
