Truth in advertising -- Mammoth Mt
I have an old Mammoth trail map from back in the days when they
included lift verticals. I compared that to the numbers now posted on some of the new lifts Chair 1: 1000 ft then, 968 ft now. The old lift was fixed-grip double (with the infamous side-step ramp). The new lift is a high- speed quad. Chair 2: 1000 ft then and now. The lift evolved from a fixed double to a fixed quad to a high-speed quad. The current upper terminal is higher than the old one. Chair 3: 1000 ft then, 898 ft now. Fixed double to HS- quad. Chair 4: 1000 ft then, 826 ft now Fixed double to HS quad. Chair 5: 1300 ft then, 1067.82 ft now. Fixed double to HS quad (new this year). The new lift alignment is a little different to the right of the old. Chair 6: 700 ft then (when it was T-bar 2), 726 feet now (from the difference between posted top and bottom elevations). The old Chair 6 was listed as 400 feet, and was located where the big half-pipe is now. Chair 9: 1700 ft then, 1645 now (top - bottom). Fixed double then, HS 6 now. Chair 10: 1000 then, 1138 now. The new lift is much longer than the old, and moved to the right. Chair 11: 250 then, 246 now Chair 12: 800 then, 727 now. This may be the oldest unmodified lift on the mountain. Chair 13: 400 then, 404 now Chair 14: 1100 then, 1074 now Chair 15 1100 then, 956 now. Chair 16: 1500 then, 1250 now Chair 17: 701 then, 528 now (top - bottom) Chair 22. 1450 then, 1460 now. Unmodified triple. Chair 23. 1105 then, 1121 now. Unmodified triple. Chair 25. 1322 then, 1336 now. Unmodified fixed quad. The unlisted chairs have either disappeared over the years, or I don't have enough information. |
