Default New Gear

Quick question, I browse this group occasionally but this is for my
brother, who is interested in becoming a tele skier as well. My
interests are predominantly backcountry and I really can't answer him.
Anyhow, he is approx 200 lbs and 5'7". He has come across some old
"learner" Crispi CX-2 boots and Olin Sierra skis upon which he intends
to learn, mostly in Sierra resort-style settings but also occasionally
in the backcountry. His concern is bindings. His current thoughts are
toward the G3 Targa binding, chiefly because it's easily available to
him. Any thoughts. RBM

_ These are all pretty good choices. Especially the Sierra as
it's the same ski as the K2 Xplorer which is the same shape as
the old version of the K2 World Piste. The big thing is to make
sure that the boots really fit, boots are the one place not to be
cheap. There should be no pressure spots and little or no heel
lift when you flex the boot. IMHO, the last part is the key to
learning to control your back foot in a telemark turn. If the
foot is moving around in the boot when flex the boot, it makes
it much harder to keep pressure on the ball of your foot.

Hey Booker,

I noticed that you're using trn, and that you use pgp as well. Do you set
up any environment variables, etc, to make this happen? (I'm trying to
change it to enable using gpg...)

thanks,
john
