DIY polar HRM battery replacement
The battery on my polar heart rate monitor seems to have died, after
~550 hours of use. Polar expects you to send the monitor in for replacement but at this point it's off warranty anyway. Last time it took like 3.5 weeks to replace, which means I wouldn't have it back in time for a cycling trip in the French Alps next month... Does anyone have experience replacing the battery? I assume I just unscrew the 4 screws on the corners and change the battery... df |

If you don't have the tools, take it to somewhere like Batteries+Plus. They usually will do it for free. Marsh |

I actually went ahead and tried it right after posting--fortunately I happened to have a 2032 battery lying around from a two-pack I had bought for my car alarm clicker. It took about five minutes so I managed to get out for a short ride as today's rain finally came to a halt--and I happened to pass Andrey Revyakin of RSN fame who was cycling in the opposite direction right around the corner from my apartment. |

I wonder why they think people should send it in since it sounds
identical to changing a watch battery, which people and watch stores do all the time. And 3 1/2 weeks turnaround? Sounds like horrible, arrogant customer service. I'd expect a 1 day turnaround. |

AFAIK when you change the battery on your own, you're running the risk of losing water proof. I recently took mine (a 720 model) to an official center (a jeweler/watch store in my city) who after changing the battery replaced also the sealing, explaining that you have to do so if you want it to be water proof. Don't know if that's really true, but that's what he said. -- beorn "You've got to learn to crawl before you learn to walk" Aerosmith (Amazing) |

I recently did it to my Xtrainer plus, and must say the watch is extremly
fragile, and button functions tend to be affected. I did do it as carefully as I could, but again, it a fragile thing. Also the femal screw parts wore quickly through my attempts, so I've now only got 2 holding the watch together. I'd do it again though. "Derick Fay" schreef in bericht oups.com... I've had good, quick service mailing mine to Creative Health Products
in Ann Arbor. You might call them and ask about cost and turn-around: 800 742-4478. |

only tricky part is getting the little gasket back in without pinching it.
