Default Making boots more comfortable

Any tips on making boots more comfortable?
I have my own boots; I've got custom footbeds and I've had them pushed out
at an awkward point near the right toe - the only thing that bugs me now is
rubbing on the inside knobbly bit of the ankles especially when
walking/skating.

You can probably get the outer boot moulding stretched again locally, to
some extent. I bought a pair over a year ago from Snow + Rock in
Manchester, but they pinched a bit across the toe joints, so they stretched
them for me last week, free of charge.

Hope this helps,
Steve
Off to La Clusaz at the weekend, yippeeeee!

Where did you buy your boots? Most places should fix this FOC within the
first year.

I'd also say that properly fitted boots shouldn't do this. For years my
boots hurt my shin, it wasn't until I got my recent boots at Precision
in Val D'Isere that the guys explained that was due to the flex point on
my old boots been incorrect for my individual flex point on my ankle.

cheers,

greg

That's a different problem and even if it had the same cause I tried on all
the boots at Snow+Rock before getting these - none of the others were
anywhere near as comfortable to start with and that was just putting them
on.

I'll ask but this would be near the joint so it might not be possible.

Hope the weather improves for you. I'm off to Selva/Val Gardena 5/2 and
everything is open!

Eh? It's snowing pretty much everywhere, isn't it? How could it
'improve'?

My point wasn't that your problem may be the same as mine, more that ill
fitting boots cause most problems that properly fitted boots will avoid.
Tinkering, stretching etc should be a last resort.

So take them back to S&R and get them fixed under their comfort
guarantee. Did they fit them and recommend the right boot for your feet?

regards,

Greg

I have, in the past, successfully fixed this problem in a DIY fashion, by
heating up the restricted portion of the shell with an Infra Red lamp, then
putting on 2 pairs of socks and then the boot, followed by a stroll in deep
snow to set the expanded area.
Works a treat, but perhaps not to everyone's taste ;o)

I have developed a sore toe joint on right big toe (possible bunion).
Bought a pair of Lange boots about four years ago used them for 2 days no
problems then returned from holiday. Not skied since and have booked a
holiday at Porte du soliel in March but after reading this message decided
to get boots out of loft to see how they felt . very sore on right toe
area. Any suggestions bar amputation gratefully received . Regards Issy.

Get them pushed out as WM says below - Snow+Rock did it for me when I bought
mine and I haven't had a problem with the toe area since. Even if you didn't
get yours there they'll probably do it fro a few quid.

Re. my original problem I have just tried adding extra heel wedges and that
seems to have helped a bit.
