I'm really curious about the enforcement mechanism there; is it like
firearms in some US states, with a mandatory background check?

Not sure about that, but it's definitely illegal in Canada to carry a
concealed snowmobile on your person.

I saw a bar in Ontario where you had to check your hockey stick at the
door.

Mandatory or voluntary?

Mandatory, like checkin' yer shootin' irons at the saloon, pardner.

bw
Hockey sticks don't high-stick, people do.

Hmmmm.. that ain't mandatory everywhere.. Take Oootah fer
instance. It's easier to take a gun in than it is to get a
drink. Think about that.

No shooting drunkards and no drunken shooters. We have designated
shooters instead of designated drivers.

What are you then, a bunch of Communists? Here in Tennessee, we like
our guns and we like our liqker, and our big trucks, usually all in the
same night.

You callin' *us* commoneests? You gosh darn easterners can't even take
yer gun into the bar....

From Tennessee code. (you know, whoever decide how to spell tennessess
needs to debounce their keyboard)

"It is an offense for a person to possess a firearm within the confines
of a building open to the public where liquor, wine or other alcoholic
beverage, as defined in 57-3-101(a)(1)(A),. or beer as defined in
57-6-102(1) , are served for on premises consumption. "

Pansies. At least in Utah you can pack into the bar... and
church.. and school.. and.. damn near anywhere.

Oh Piffle. That's just one of those "on the books" laws like not
herding pigs on Mainstreet on Sundays or income tax or drinking age.
Those laws are just for the out of towners.

Maybe you're allowed to "pack heat" in Utah beer joints, 'cause that
stuff ain't really beer (sorry Pigo

Oh yeah? So what are you going to do when you want to kill a man for
snoring too loudly? Poision him? Sheesh, you gotsta be strapped.

and i just bought a tallboy from a vending
machine.

If that vending machine was here in Tennessee, it'd have more bullet
holes than a "deer crossing" sign in the country. You better hope that
vending machine has a double barrel hidden in the back.

Plake, you seem to have developed an eastern block fear of the regulations.

Any US outlet will be glad to sell you anything as long as they get money
(in any form: cash or credit card).

Of course, many Europeans come to ski to US with their own gear and they
don't leave it in here; do they pay the duty when crossing the border?
Naturally no.

I'm going to Utah for 2wks in March and want to take advantage of the
USD/GBP exchange rate by buying new ski & board gear:

Rossignol B2/Fritschi Diamir £519 at Snow+Rock, £397 at rei.com
K2 Recon/Salomon SP3/Salomon Dialogue £664 at Snow+Rock, £355 at
rei.com!

So I have a couple of questions:

1) I suspect the US stores are pressurised by the European
manufacturers not to sell gear to Europeans. Is this true, and will
paying cash at the store help?

Not true. Cash or credit. All good.
