You are missing some great snow. I was at Winter park today. It snowed
quite a bit wednesday, but they didn't open Parsene bowl yesterday because
of the wind. I was lucky to get a ride up just as they opened the lift. I
got my powder run in the trees. By the time I came back to that lift the
line was horrendous. I was contemplating just bailing and skiing some other
run but a patroller just called for a single and nobody else raised their
hand ! So I got the bonus ride ! 2 great powder runs to start the day. I
could have gone home happy at this point :-) The rest of the mountain is in
decent shape except some over abused runs like riffle sight notch. If you
are renting, that $1 insurance is a good investment.

Sounds great. Things have just been really crazy lately and it's nice to veg
at home in pyjamas sometimes. My cat seems to like actually seeing me now and
then, too.

It's all OK, but the minute I get a bit cold, or even just before, the

Nope, if age did it I'd have it! Go for the technological solutions, I
don't think there are any others :-(

Yes, ours aren't padded, I think my normal Rossi coat is warmer. We have a
nice under-thing made of some new fangled stretchy stuff. I have been
wearing a polypro thermal, my skivvy, a Karbon fleece shirt, this stretchy
thing, and my jacket. And getting cold. Legs are a real issue, the trousers
we have aren't padded either, and normal thermals aren't enough.

I haven't had actual frost bite in years though.

This wasn't the going-black sort, I basically just froze that area on a
regular basis for several weeks. It hurt like hell.

Good thing because the damage seems to weaken an area and make it prone to
frost bite. Someone here may tell us that this is because that after a
case of frost bite that there are fewer blood vessels bringing warmth to
the damaged area.

I think that's what I've done, for sure. dammit.

Because the actual skiing hasn't been great and the open terrain is
limited, I've been spending my time talking to people and getting two
(yes, two) new pair of boots dialed in. The AT's are really close and
the flexon's will probably need a bit more tweak in the area of the
first knuckle of my little toe on each foot. The lasts are pretty narrow
for my duck feet. Otherwise pretty good.

New skis are fantastic. Volkl 6star have everything I want for screaming
carves and ice grip. Fischer MountainX's are great for everything else
and the price was RIGHT. $84, new in plastic from ebay.

New Black Diamond gloves have proven to be too light and hands have been
frozen a couple of times so another pair of gloves is in the mail. These
ordered a size too large to allow a pair of fleece liners in addition to
the thinsulate.

And here in MN, practice on Saturday was cut short when it started to rain,
hail, sleet - hurt to ski as the little ice balls nailed you in the face.
Man, it's been strange as ever here this year. Oh wait, that's normal for
winter in SE MN. Cold, warm, cold, warm. Make up your damn mind MN! Still
got to make turns on the 1st day of the year, that's never a bad thing, even
in bad weather.

Snow predicted for tomorrow night. Should be good on Wed. Need to
call my boss this week and schedule some vacation time for my 2005
westerly ventures...

Where to go? Hard to ignore Utah at the moment. They keep getting
hammered. Right now its topping my list at least for the first stop.
That could change though depending on a number of factors.

Too funny. Yup, we had to bolt home Saturday before that hit. Sunday
morning, I could not open my garage door for fear that the lower have would
stay as the rest of it went up. My 11 yo was skating around the
neighborhood too. It's pretty damn thick and I don't see it going away
anytime soon with the cold temps. I was able to clear some areas with lots
of salt and the sun we had Sunday.

Cool! I was the only skater here in this area even though I called
for an all skate

I remember one winter, like 96 I think, or 97 when I was living in the
cities (MN) and they predicted a giant snowstorm, but instead it
rained, and rained, with the temp right above freezing, the a huge
cold front came down, and it kept raining for a while, quickly dropped
to 30 below zero F and stayed there for a couple weeks!

That sucked. Two inches of ice on the ground, on the trees,
powerlines. It was a horrible couple of weeks trying to get around
that town.

Thankfully in Iowa, it always seems to melt off right away.
