Smith Goggle Lens Color
Can anyone tell me how the Red Mirror and Rose Platinum Smith Goggle
lens do in partly cloudy and shady conditions? I know those lenses are meant for sunnier days, but wonder if these are flexible enough for those conditions. And.. can someone recommend a lineup of lens I should get to cover days that are sunny, partly cloudy, snowing days, foggy days... Thanks! |

Cloudy/snowy/foggy: Yellow. Sunny: Any colour. Yellow is fine for low altitudes, but something darker might be needed for high altitudes or if your eyes are sensitive. Night: Clear. I use orange Oakleys in all conditions (I don't do nights though). Orange is an OK compromise. Not quite as good as yellow in poor conditions, but a bit more protective when it's sunny. -- As it happens, I've just tried the orange Oakleys for the first time today. In sunny conditions, they're excellent. As it got darker, they definitely reduced the visibility but when they turned on the lights (sodium yellow) there was almost no difference with and without goggles. Then, just as I was in full flow, they turned off the lights (power problems I guess) so I had my first experience of riding in total (and I do mean total) darkness. Can't say I'd recommend it but it you do find yourself in a similar situation, the Oakleys didn't make the visibility any worse. Jay. |

And today it was dull with light snowfall and the Oakleys were just amazing. Actually made it seem brighter. One word of caution, when I was buying them, the first pair I tried left a huge gap when I had my helmet on. Something wrong with the foam I think. Could just be a one off but it's worth taking your helmet into the shop so you can see if they fit properly. Jay. |
