Default Classic Sprint - skate skis & classic poles

The Norwegians used skate skis with classic poles to sweep the Canmore
classic sprint.

"the three Norweigans confirmed that they raced on skate skis, classic
poles, and pursuit boots".

What is the advantage in double poling with classic poles?

I'll guess they did it because of the uphills, to get more turnover.

yes. classic pole length is more optimal for doublepoling.

What about the skate skis?
I always understood that classic skis, waxed only for glide, were
supposed to have better flat (unedged) gliding characteristics than
skate skis - though of course without the torsional stiffness and
whatever else makes a skate ski better for skating.

Maybe this might work in theory, but in real life it doesn't.
Basically because you always have some weight on skis (I'm not going
into more details about this now). Skating skis glide better then (not
waxed) classic skis, so if track is flat enough (hardly ever on WC)
you go with skating skis.
Classic poles are not ideal, but they are easier and more effective
for double poling then skating poles. Ideally poles should be a little
bit longer then classic poles, but because such races occur once every
few seasons, noone is using that.

I understand that classic & skate poles typically differ by "about" 10
cm. So, what length relative to their height are they now chopping
their poles.

Cheers,
Mike
