Hotel for South Lake Tahoe?
I'm going to South Lake Tahoe in February.
I would like a hotel that is near night life options (casinos, restaurants, strip joints, etc.) and near skiing options. I would like access to night life and skiing no matter how many feet of fresh snow fall wreaking havoc with roads. I would like the hotel to have a community hot tub/spa and fitness facilities and a decent early morning breakfast (preferably on the house). I would like a hotel where the clientel actually sleeps at night and does their partying elsewhere. I would like to pay less than or equal to $150 per night for the hotel. What do you think, does such facility exist? Meanwhile, I'm off to google this question. |

Stay at the Casinos if you're so hot for non-ski activities - should be considerably cheaper than $150. Heavenly recently built a lift right from the casino area up the mountain... And, oh yeah, the casinos are actually in State Line, Nevada, which Nevada likes to call Lake Tahoe, Nevada. That lift that lal talks about was built when Heavenly was owner by American Skiing Corp. AKA Les Otten's kingdom. Nowadays Otten is gone so we say there is more skiing and Less Otten. VtSkier(Killington, another ASC resort) |

Actually, as far as nightlife goes, I'm there for the skiing, but would like something to do at night when I'm done skiing and I don't want to do much driving to make it happen and I'd rather be closer to the skiing in the morning than to the nighttime activities at night. I was thinking of trying Heavenly and Kirkwood; I've never been to either. Where would you stay with that clarification in mind? Would you still recommend the casino's? |

If you stay at Harvey's, the buses to the distant hills mostly start their runs in their loading dock. It's a high-class joint, with all the amenities you mention. You'd have to walk a few blocks to the new Heavenly gondola, sorry about that. Me, I prefer any cheapass motel on the California side, because most of those have hot tubs and a $30 a night room leaves me $120 a night for everything else you had on your budget. Just one thing -- if it's still open, AVOID the alleged Texas BBQ joint. It's little more than a New Jersyian's bad imitation of Georgia BBQ with a 1-gallon can of jalapenos sloshed on top.
