Interesting. It is clearly a picture of a very good skate (and NOT a
step turn) in a classic technique sprint race. Perhaps a reflex move, by lack of tracks?
Is skating on classic ski's still worth it after classic ski's have evolved further? "Jon" schreef in bericht ps.com... Interesting. Perhaps. Skating on classic skis? Top racers, including the noted
skater in the photo, reportedly used skate skis , no kick wax and "double poled", in the qualifying round, due to the icy hard tracks. Hard to tell if he is in classic gear in the picture of the heat. Note the other competitors double poling. Debatably, the picture sequence on the noted link shows a single skate, likely rationalized as a "change of direction outside of the set track, or where there is no set track". The FIS rules are a bit fuzzy, leaving it up to the Jury to determine if a competitor skates in a classic technique competition. The big boys and girls on WC change directions in classic comp frequently with a skate motion, ie changing lanes, turning, and it is alot faster than a double pole or a classic step turn, with a rare DQ for skating in a classic comp, so it is not a big deal. It is simply interesting that the photo was referred to as a nice skate, in a classic comp! FIS Technique Definitions: 314.1 Classical Technique 314.1.1 Classical technique includes the diagonal techniques, the double poling techniques, herringbone techniques without a gliding phase, downhill techniques and turning techniques. Single or double-skating is not allowed. Turning techniques comprise steps and pushes in order to change directions. Where there is a set track, turning techniques with pushing are NOT allowed. This will also apply to competitors skiing outside of the set track. Jan Gerrit Klok wrote: Perhaps a reflex move, by lack of tracks?
