waxing 101 per camilo
Camilo just pointed this out in a post below and i've not seen/heard this
before. From Zach Caldwell " http://www.engineeredtuning.net/Reviews/index.htm " I've been of the "low temp, multiple passes" school, but think I'll switch to "hot and quick". thanks for pointing this out Camilo !!!!!!! Seems as though Zach (and other world level wax dudes) thinks its better to go HOT and fast vs slow and cool with the waxing. Scary thought but definitely good thinking. He suggests 120 degrees quickly with a few fast passes for ALL waxes regardless of what you've done in the past. I've certainly spent a lot of time on a warm wax letting it "soak" in with repeated slow passes, thus warming and possibly damaging the internal part of the ski !!! so, along this line ...... what is 120 degrees on a SWIX wax iron that only has CH4, CH6, CH7, CH8, CH10 settings ?? anyone? JKal. |

JKal. If you look at the swix ch packages, I believe you'll see a wax iron setting. I don' t have them in front of me, so I can't list them. Might be on swix site too. If you are obsessive and want an excuse to spend some money - buy a thermometer to test your iron. I just bought a digital cooking thermometer (about $15). I plan to test my Holmenkol iron (which has temp settings, but how accurate?). There was thread within the past few months on testing wax iron temps. |

waxing 101 per camilo
I picked up one of the Swix digital irons a couple weeks ago. I had
one of the oldest Swix irons from 10 years ago, and with this iron and by feel, I was waxing at temp just slightly higher than that recommended by Swix with the new iron. (150-155 fluoros, 150 for 4, 140 for 6, 135 for 7, etc.) This is not the type of temp I've seen Tjorborn (sp?) wax in his video, which must be quite hot (and the video is quite old). I'd say this is warm and medium, not hot and fast, but I guess it really depends on your view. I'd say the wax is melting under the iron easily, but not staying melted behing the iron for more than a couple inches. Hopefully that gets you in the ballpark. Jay |
