Conditions: San Luis Peak
Date: 12/16/03 1:30 pm
Elevation: 14,014 ft Temp: ~10 F Visibility: Blue bird Wind: light until last 10 minutes on summit Conditions: Winter snow(?) pack. Avalanche: Low Distance: 4-5 miles up. 5200' verticle Duration: 5 hours up, 4 hours back. Rating: Advanced We took the snow cat to the ridge at 12,400, from there we descended and climbed the next ridge to ~12,200, dropped down and then started climbing San Luis. Things looked grim from our first view, but we were able to ski the whole thing, with the bottom 1500' being 6-9" of powder. 9 hour day arriving back at the cat around 5:30 p.m. http://raf.atd.ucar.edu/~cjw/Skiing |
