Atomic tm:ex tails and skins

I want to notch a pair Atomic tm:ex tails for G3 climbing skin tail hooks.
The visible base edge across the tail is pretty thin & I'm not sure how far
into the tail to file.

Has anybody dealt with this issue before with this ski?

Is there more metal edge material underneath the base and below the top
sheet so I can make an adequate notch?
