Places like Crystal WA. didn't have the whole mountain open even before the
washout.
there was maybe three weeks with limited lifts and half a mountain .
at this point unless there's a couple of real big dumps and like sooooooon
this years shot.

so a collective question to those of ya'll that might have gone through
this before.
just what sort of threats to these cheap bastids might work for some comp.
on a hopefull next season pass.

The mountain isn't responsible for the snow. They would be complete
fools to give you a pass next year because the snow sucked.

They got screwed too, yanno.

Wal, from the resort owner's POV...

How many days was the resort open?
How much did you pay for your pass?

1. Price per single day times days open
2. Did the total exceed the season pass price by
some multiple?

Example:

Killington's lift ticket is $72
A season pass bought in August was $350

A "Normal" season would be 150 days

If Killington was open only 50 days, then
skiing those 50 days would be $3600. If that
was the multiple (10) would you refund the
season pass price?

ie. You could have re-couped your season pass
cost by skiing only 5 of those open days.

The equation changes with the season. ie,
when did you buy your pass? The cost would
have been $600 or so if you had bought your
pass in November.

So, if the area had only been open for 10
days out of the season, or not at all, then
maybe they should refund (or better still,
give you a voucher for next year) your money.

If they had been open for 1/3 of the season
in my example, then probably no.

However, despite indications otherwise,
Killington has a stated policy of making the
customers happy. My suspicion would be that
if you yelled loud and long enough, they
would make some sort of adjustment.

maybe you didn't catch the part that they are CLOSED.

They got screwed too, yanno.

Not nearly as bad as they are gonna get screwed next year for a lack of
customer care.

It is in the area's interests to keep their best customers happy. Hopefully,
they will try to do so. It would probably be appropriate to send this
question to crystal.

Of course, the season's not over yet. Some of the best snow around here is
often late Feb and March.

Ahhhh... I had a sneaking suspicion this might happen.

Why do you think resorts have been doing the discounted season pass for
the past few years? Answer: to flatten out their risk. On good snow
years, they take a hit and the pass holder gets a good deal. On bad
years, it is like an insurance policy for the resort.

You knew the risk when you bought it, didn't you? And now you want your
money back? Buy bonds the next time. And maybe I will get you some
cheese with that wine.

Personally I would love to see several good dumps and at least 20 days
worth of
skiing.
I will however if nothing else learn from this experiance.

Wrong idea. Buy at earliest opportunity so that by the time the season
rolls around you will have forgotten the money. Consider each ski day a
free ski day and enjoy. One of the prime benefits of a pass.

I don't think I'd call any season a washout the first week in Feb. There
are still nearly 3 full months of skiing and often the best snowfall
comes Feb thru March.
