Dynafit Legend as AT ski?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
_ I was poking around one of the local alpine shops and I came across the Dynastar Legend skis[1]. Since it's getting close to ski buying time, I'm looking to get something: light 75-80mm wide Cheap _ These skis looked fairly interesting and for alpine skis were noticably light. Looking at the weights listed on www.rei.com they seem comparable to any BC specific skis I know in that size. Does anybody have any experience with these skis? _ Booker C. Bense Sounds pretty good to me. I scored a pair if K2 Explorers (ca 1998-99) for a great price in great condition. Haven't used them yet off piste because we don't have any snow off-piste. They are mounted with Silvretta 404's. Look great standing there in the rack, wish I could take them out, snow predicted this week, maybe Sunday. K2's aren't terribly light because (I think) of the wood core. My old XScreams are a bit lighter. The following is from REI' website concerning the Legend 8800: If you love powder, steeps, trees and a challenge, the Legend 8800s will deliver the flotation and stability you need. * Super flotation, incredibly stability and easy control make these skis a treat for freerider * Float smoothly through all snow conditions with the hull-shaped tip * Kick-tail permits the tail to release and skid for more maneuverability * Autodrive SD cap tip allows instant turn entry and stable, smooth and tenacious performance on hardpack * Oversized sidewalls at the waist ensure excellent stability and edge grip on all kinds of snow Be aware that there is a Woman specific version of this ski called the Exclusive Legend. It's narrower at 75mm waist (same as my K2's) but in a longer length might work well as a BC ski. The Legend 8800 has an 89mm waist. It's a BIG ski. VtSkier |

I got mine in 1999 and they are starting to noodle out a bit after 4 seasons. ( I bought them used, so thats pretty good IMHO). At the time they were about as light as you could get in that size and are still reasonably close to anything in that size range. _ I think mid-fats have improved some since then, those skis pretty much wanted to turn at one radius. The newer skis seem more verstile, but if the price is right and you like making quick linked turns... There are certainly much worse skis of that vintage around. Many of the early efforts at shaped skis were pretty dreadful. _ Booker C.
