There's two lifts up from Les Carroz, an chair and a bubble, which one is new ? Sorry, I misread it and was referring to the new one from Samoens. I wondered that, I've still not been on it, the bus back from Sixt will drop you there but I just ride the bus back to Morillon. I'm thinking one lift is pretty much the same as another :-) Well I guess if you're staying in Samoens, rather than just passing through it on the way back from the Cascades run, it would make a much bigger difference. -- Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) Ski Club of Great Britain - http://www.skiclub.co.uk All opinions expressed are personal and in no way represent those of the Ski Club. |

Hotels for a weekend in Flaine
"Ace" wrote in message ... Is that a flaine.com deal??? Sound very good! It's listed there, yes, under ski or snowboard "evolution". "Formule tout compris (pension complète, hébergement en chambres de 4, forfait remontées mécaniques, prêt du matériel, cours de ski ou de snowboard, animation, assurance). " 395 Eu for the Easter week inc. snowboard instruction, or 160 for the 3-day weekend. Can't find this anywhere on www.flaine.com. Is that the right place? Can you help? Roger |

Hotels for a weekend in Flaine
Many thanks. I can see why I couldn't locate it.
You didn't warn about the "Spécialiste des vacances et des stages sportifs pour les jeunes de 18 à 25 ans" bit. Rather rules me out, I'm afraid. |

Many other guests were 30+ as well. -- Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) Ski Club of Great Britain - http://www.skiclub.co.uk All opinions expressed are personal and in no way represent those of the Ski Club. |

Doesn't look as though there are many according the the Flaine site (or are these just the approved ones?). There are precisely zero hotels or guesthouses offering weekend accomodation in Flaine itself. The only accomodation I know of which may sometimes be available for weekends is at the ucpa[1] www.ucpa.fr which is cheap, clean and basic, with youth-hostel style accomodation. at the Front de Neige level. snip Whilst it may be tricky, it can be done as long as you persevere. Five of us got a long weekend in Flaine at the Hotel Aujon a couple of years ago (in February). About 6 weeks in advance they were reluctant to take any weekend bookings - "call us back" etc. Four weeks later, they said they could offer us the Thursday & Friday nights but not the Saturday. About 6 days before the weekend in question, they relented and we got the Thu, Fri and Sat night deal that we'd been after all along. Basically the hotels play a game, hanging on for full Saturday to Saturday bookings. If you keep your nerve and are fully prepared to go for alternative accommodation in some other resort or down the valley then you have a chance. e.g. we could have gone to Chamonix if our final phone call had not got the required result. |

Five of us got a long weekend in Flaine at the Hotel Aujon a couple of years ago (in February). Glad you managed to get in, but I think you'll find it much harder to do now. That year there was also the Totem, which has since (start of last season) been run as a Crystal chalet-hotel, and has dramatically reduced the number of beds available for 'normal' hotel bookings, hence the Aujon can pretty much rely on being full from Sat-Sat bookings. It may still be worth playing this card, of course, but be aware that it's _much_ less likely you'll get in than it was two years ago. -- Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) Ski Club of Great Britain - http://www.skiclub.co.uk All opinions expressed are personal and in no way represent those of the Ski Club. |

That's a shame. We really enjoyed the skiing and all agreed the proximity to Geneva made it a cracking option for a long weekend. Two of us also spent a long weekend at nearby Les Carroz a while back. How would you rate chances of weekend bookings there these days? Think the place we stayed at was called "Bois de la Char" or something. |

Yupp. In principle you shouldn't have too many problems getting in at one of the above, and access to the ski areas is now really easy. -- Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) Ski Club of Great Britain - http://www.skiclub.co.uk All opinions expressed are personal and in no way represent those of the Ski Club. |
