Default Fresh snowfalls... at last

After something of a nail-biter, the past few days have produced significant
snowfalls, not only in the French Alps, but down in the Pyrenees (which have
loads)and even the Auvergne. Not a bad year for Le Mont Dore & Co, in fact.

Looks like more to come on Sunday, and maybe beyond, as a new low comes in.

Webcams show one or two areas which have missed out, and it's all come too
late to save the season for some of the smaller ski stations which have had
to lay off seasonal staff and pack it in. There's a bitter irony in the
present big dumps...

So, a good time to get an extra, late season trip in. :-)

Don't mind if I do....

Yup - we haven't had much here in Tignes, but we got maybe 5 to 10cm
and the temperature plummeted on Monday keeping everything nice and
fresh. The new stuff was tracked out in seconds, but piste condition
had been lovely the last few days, especially Grande Motte, Grand Pre
and down to Les Brev in the mornings.

Looking forward to the predicted low next week - that lull in tourists
between now and Easter weekend could combine with half a metre of
powder to play in and make for a very enjoyable March.

Been pretty damn good in Engelberg as well. There was a small amount
of fresh snow last week, but only in some of the higher-up areas, but
the cold weather of the previous couple of weeks had kept the snow in
really good condition, despite the lack of fresh falls (for nearly a
month).

But the heavy falls on Tuesday and Wednesday were very welcome indeed.
Tuesday's skiing was fantastic, with low visibility keeping many folks
away. Wednesday was actually not so good, as the vis was so poor[1] it
was only rarely possible to 'just ski', so being cautious in very deep
new snow lead to very tired legs.

Packed it in about two, with the promised clear skies not arriving
until well after 4. Today dawned bright and clear, but I had to leave
and come back into the office. Bugger.

Looks like more to come on Sunday, and maybe beyond, as a new low comes in.

Aye, but hopefully it should hold off to allow a great weekend first.

[1] Like, no distinction at all between the tips of my skis up to the
sky. So even pistes I know well could hold a nasty surprise at any
point.

Hopefully it will at least stay cold now so that they can start to
blast with snow cannons again! Ok not the answer to everything but it
does help. What did a lot of damage was the high temperatures and the
rain of the previous two weeks.
