Ski resorts with casinos
Hi All,
This may be a somewhat odd request, but just in case people here know. My situation - I have just been laid off for my job in the UK. I have previously been to Reno, and enjoyed the skiing around there and at lake Tahoo. I found could consistently win on the small stakes Texas Hold'em tables in the casinos, but there was a definite difference between the more "tourist" tables and the more skilled ones. At the end of last season I was just about confident on single blacks if not too icy, and looking at getting into easy off-piste. My plan - Fly over to see my brother in San Francisco in early November, stay until some time in December, and spend some days in the ski resorts in Nevada nearest to San Francisco. Spend the evenings playing poker to give me a cheap entertainment and drink, and possibly even make back a bit of the days ski pass. My questions - What ski resorts would people recommend for cheap accommodation, affordable lift pass, and casinos with lots of people who are not that good at poker. Of course I shall look at the weather conditions closer to the time, and perhaps forget the idea and go surfing instead if there is no snow. Any ideas of what the prognosis is that time of year? Thanks for any help -- If you do not pay the exorcist, is it likely that you'd be re-possessed? |

If you want to stay and ski cheap, stay in Reno and ski at Mt. Rose. Or if you don't mind a slightly longer drive, go to Sugar Bowl. Lift tickets are available at Safeway grocery stores for $35. Can't help you on the gambling thing, I don't gamble. December tends to be risky for snow cover in Tahoe. Some years it's great; some years it's not so great. The seasonal predictions aren't looking too exciting right now: http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/product...ictions/30day/ -- terry morse Palo Alto, CA http://ski.terrymorse.com/ |

Can't help you on the gambling thing, I don't gamble. That is what I did last year, when my brother lived in Reno. That would be prefect, as there are plenty of torists in Reno, so I should be able to make some money there. I was thinking of the Resorts closer to the Califoria border, as they would be closer to SF, but looking at the map it is so far the extra little distance to Reno would not make much difference. I really enjoyed Mt. Rose, and it was very good value for money. Especially if you could get a set-time leason when it was empty and you got one all to yourself. I missed Sugar Bowl, I shall have to check that out. December tends to be risky for snow cover in Tahoe. Some years it's great; some years it's not so great. I have never seen a site that tries to look so far in advance. I guess I shall just have to play it by ear. Thanks |
