Cheap accom in Chamonix?
I need to find accomodation for 9 lads in Chamonix for 3 nights starting
23rd Jan 2004. looking on chamonix.net The Office - Hotel accommodation seems to do what I want, cheap, cheerful with dinner at the office bar and sleeping in HOTEL DE LA COURONNE. Situated directly across the road from 'The OFFICE', La Couronne recently refurbished offers comfortable accommodation all rooms with WC and either bath or shower. Selected rooms have fantastic views of the Argentiere glacier, Les Grands Montets & Mont Blanc. Take breakfast & dinner at'The OFFICE' as part of a great package has anyone stayed here, or could they recommend something suitable? needs to be close to town for evening beers, and reasonably priced! regards, Greg |

The hotel is ok if a little old fashioned - stayed there quite a few times. It is in Argentiere not Chamonix mind. Chris |

The hotel is ok if a little old fashioned - stayed there quite a few times. It is in Argentiere not Chamonix mind. thanks Chris, so does that means it's not good for going out in Chamonix in the evening? Or is there plenty to do in Argentiere? If it's not good for evenings, any suggestions of where to stay? regards, greg |

There are a few bars in Argentiere (and a couple of clubs IIRC), the
nightlife is pretty good. There are a lot more bars and clubs etc in Chamonix itself of course. If there is a big group you could always get a taxi or 2, it's not too far (about 12km). If you are just there for 3 days then there should be plenty in Argentiere to keep you amused. My personal prefrence would be to stay in Argentiere because I prefer the skiing on the Grands Montets to the Brevent or Flegere areas, but others may disagree.
