Warren Miller or other Ski Films Question Part 2
Since I didn't receive any feedback last time, I thought I would try one
more stab at this. Does anyone know of any sites that exist that have ski films available for download? |

You originally asked for Warren Miller films. Everybody jumped on you because of possible copyright laws and didn't want to be involved with lawbreaking heh activities. Since you changed your question, you get a better answer. A quick google on "ski movies" turned up: http://www.im.com/adwords/sports.asp...FT8UGgodbWOKeQ Try google, you'll like it. |

He's one of the good ol' skiers and we good ol' skiers have to stick together and watch out for each other - I just wanted him to get his royalties. Video for the original poster: Alpine Meadows telemark big mountain competition http://www.telemarktips.com/video/AMcomp05e.mpg (FWIW, I think VtSkier and I watched a bit of this live; but of course, the prospect of actually skiing caused us to abandon gawking in favor of gliding after just a few moments.) And here is a fine example of powder skiing technique (starts about half way through - silly tobogganer in first half.) http://www.jacksonhole.com/movies/012702.mov The look the skier gives the cameraman is classic. |

The angle and zoom on the film clip is far better than the vantage point we had on the ground. Good as it was, the skiing was better and had to be resumed. That's why he premiered his new flick today on Starz. So we could all burn a copy for personal use. Micah, more Kina Pickett, no Coombs. And Plake was a no show at the Memorial so he's on my **** list. -- According to John Perry Barlow, "Jeff Davis is a truly gifted trouble-maker." |

I ran in to Kristen Kremmer at Albertsons a couple of days before the Memorial. She was down from Alaska for it. I said it was too bad about Sue, (Nott), and she said, "Karen, (McNeil), too." Then we both fell silent. I said, "I don't know what to say." She said, "I don't either." It's really too bad you couldn't make it to the Memorial the 25th. Jim Conway, TGR's lead guide was discussing the price of Hobbs Time with Theo Mieners when I finally tracked Theo down. Theo was Doug's logistical coordinator with Valdez Heli Ski Guides. When Doug sold it, Theo started Alaska Rendezvous Heli Ski. Steve Coombs and I had a very difficult conversation about the intimacy between brothers. Nobody knows what to say. It was just good that Doug brought us all together again. I'm working for the Newcomb's and Al Reed this summer. They spoke volumes in their eulogies of Doug. The most interesting thing I heard came from my friend, Hans Johnstone. He said he was glad Doug didn't die in an avalanche or exceeding his margin of safety skiing. Doug died going to help a friend. It wasn't his ambition that caused his death. I'm sure you can out ski me and out climb me. Hell, I'm a 51 year old cripple. But you don't have what it takes to live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. You think its a nice place to visit, but you can't hack living here. You can't cut it here. Now one of my friends, Jack Tackle was the master of ceremonies. Alex Lowe introduced us in 1980. Jack told me I was going to have a blast trying to solo Denali in 2004. That's where I met Kristen Kremmer. National Geographic photographer Jimmy Chin got a huge belly laugh out of a Todd Jones, (TGR), joke I told Rick Armstrong. And I could go on. The point is, none of us consider this name dropping. We all live here. We run into each other out on some back country ridge in zero visibility. We run into each other taking a lap on the Grand for giggles. We run into each other at guides meetings. We run into each other at the Exum office getting ready for a day in the mountains, and get paid for it. Usenet is as egalatarian as it gets. Since you don't have the balls to hang with me, I doubt you'd have anything to say to me face to face. I ran into Bob Peters when I was hanging with Theo. He posts here. We get along fine. You on the other hand, are going to piddle around in your mediocre life and snipe away at me with ad hominem attacks, because you've lost a long time ago. So snipe away little guy. I'll continue to consider the elite Ski Mountaineers and Heli Ski Guides, as well as Exteme Skiing Filmmakers and National Geographic photographers among my PEERS. That's the way they treat me. Steve said Doug saw something in me that he enjoyed. I don't give a **** if you ever see me, period. We're having a great time pushing the boundries of skiing here in Jackson Hole. Come up for a visit any time. Just make sure you spend all your money before you go home, because you'll never call this valley home. You don't belong here. -- According to John Perry Barlow, "Jeff Davis is a truly gifted trouble-maker." |

Warren Miller or other Ski Films Question Part 2
I declare WINNER! And it's worth top-posting to so declare.
You now hold the RSA record for names dropped per words typed, doubling the name-drop-rate of the former record holder (a Mr. You-Know-Who of Seattle - fine company.) Next time I visit JH (don't worry - it'll be just for a day or so - I can't hang in such an intense environment) I'll bring you your prize - one half can of fine domestic beer. I don't have much money, but I'd be interested in living there if the real estate prices ever dropped some. So the substance of my article is confirmed by your own words.
