Fractured Metatarsal
Hi,
I fractured a metatarsal last year overdoing the skiing. Anyone got any ideas on supporting it when I get back on the skis in December? My foot has definitely been a lot better recently but it has taken months - I was quite surprised how one tiny bone can cause such a carry on! The doctor has been scaring me with stories about how I will snap the bone again as soon as I get back on the skis! Cheers, MG |

Have you been to see a podiatrist? Some sort of custom orthotic would
no doubt help. |

Cheers, MG My non-medical opinion is that a product called the 2 Oz miracle might help support your foot evenly and prevent load. It is a cushion type foot bet that molds to your foot thus supporting evenly. I get mine at Target. gr I just got a pair of these also. Pretty darn good over the counter orthotic. Ed V. |

What type of boots are you using. The new Salomons have a plastic plate across the top of the foot which could prevent the normal motion of the midfoot and cause a stress fracture. Hi, I had older Salomons but I'm looking for some new ones. I'll have a look at those. An orthotic insert might help as well. Worth giving it a try anyway. Can't bear not to be back on the skis. Cheers everyone, MG |

It's long struck me - and an occasional alpine ski boot footer I've
come across - that insoles that mold to my foot reinforce and probably make worse the deformities. While I suppose there are circumstances where insoles that conform to one's foot are helpful, I want insoles that counteract the existing tendencies. That's the big difference with custom orthotics, as compared to mass market "orthotics" like SuperFeet or the 2Oz Miracle. Disclaimer: My wife prescribes orthotics as part of her chiropractic practice. |
