Rent Skis?
Do you recommend renting skis and boots at your local ski shop in the
Midwest or renting the gear in Colorado? D |

If so, it seems like a no-brainer. I'd definitely rent there, but maybe do some advance research to find a good shop, and call them if there's something specific you want. Unless you have/are developing/might consider plans to keep up the skiing addiction for some time. If that is the case, you might think about buying some boots and renting skis. Having boots that fit comfortably will greatly enhance the skiing experience. If you are new to the sport, you can get in and out for a reasonable price 'cuz you probably don't need the Atomic 10.5s. Find a boot guy/gal/person and ask his/her/its opinion. Don't buy boots at a sporting goods store with a slightly(?) moronic eighteen year old "salesman", either. Go to a real ski shop. If this is your first or nearly so time then, yeah, rent there. Just my $.02 Dave M |

I would echo that answer. I would rent near where I'm skiing if, for no other reason - if something goes wrong, they can fix it. If you rent in the Midwest and then, say the binding hoses, then you get the priveledge of renting near the mountain, too. |

I already have my rig (Volkl 7-24 AX3 skis, Atomic BetaCarv 9.18 skis, Solomon Xwave 9 boots) so this would be for a friend who is an intermediate skier. The ski rep at my local ski/tennis shop is very good at fitting boots which is the main concern for an intermediate I think. I just wonder if Jackson Hole ski rental will have a good selection of boots and relatively new shaped skis. If Jackson Hole ski shop will have a good selection of relatively new boots and skis, then I can see having my friend rent there. I have always owned my own skis (besides demo'ing) so not seasoned in the 5-6 day rental area. Sounds like it will be best to rent at JH as my friend is a 5-10 normal build. D |

I meant to say Jackson Hole, WY. Must have had said Colorado because that is where I have skied in the past in the Rockies. I am really looking forward to JH. D |
