Since it was a Sunday, the Snow Summit lifts started at 8AM, and since
it was the first day of DST, it felt like 7AM.

Perfect weather in the morning - just below freezing, bright sunlight,
no wind. The groom marks were frozen but carvable, and as the sun
warmed things up, the scrapings became piles of heavy wet stuff.
Things were great until after noon, so I headed oiver to Bear Mt. to
see if they were better - yes, some. but not very enjoyable. Then I
got birthday calls from my kids and my wife suggested I come home
early since a friend had offered us a free dinner at a casino
restaurant.

Today's fall was brought to you by Nikon and Giro helmets. I was
running toward the right of Olympic to see if the ungroomed bumps on
Side Chute were soft enough to be enjoyable. On the way, I noticed a
young lady kneeling in the snow taking pictures, so I bent a high -
speed turn to the left around her, and then back to the right around a
"SLOW" sign to get back to those bumps. Unknown to me, a lot of
people had been making turns around that sign, so I slid out on the
exposed ice behind it and hit the pile of wet shavings behind it.
Both sets of bindings still release properly, and I slid under a
bamboo-and-tape guideline. Well, most of me slid under - I clipped
one of the bamboo poles with the back of my head. All this was close
enough to the bottom that the lifitie made some sort of sarcastic
comment to me every lap after that. AND...I didn't find out if she
got the picture.

Here's the remnants of the wave sliding up the Emoryville mudflats. This
wave had to get in the Golden Gate and spread all over the SF Bay -
notice Bay Bridge and SF in background; Golden Gate to the right out of
frame. Must have been considerably bigger outside the Gate. Hope it
didn't disturb the Great Whites busy hanging around the seals at the
Farallon Islands.

Rain (pray for snow) is predicted for next weekend. I will probably
hit Snow Summit Thursday because it might be the last chance this
season. I will also purchase my next-year season pass then, and hunt
down some season-end equipment sales. My son will be spending the
weekend and some of the following week at Lake Arrowhead, much closer
to Big Bear than here. I hope they don't get washed out.

What is it that makes gloves stink after a few months' use?

Your friend was watching at the wrong time. I had relatives tell me
about the tsunami and the effects it left. And they were in
Cleveland.

Sweat.

It seems to be hit and miss too. I get a pair that just wears out or
gets lost and nuthin'. Then I'll get another that stinks after a month
or so. I don't know why that is.

Try putting some alcohol inside the gloves. The alcohol kills the
bacteria that causes the smell. Or better yet, don't smell the
gloves.

Alcohol. Good for everything.

The fine aroma of honest physical effort.

Possibly you ride a desk for a living? Most of us do, in these last days
before the deluge, so the fine aroma of honest physical effort is no
longer common or even welcome in the modern world.

Pump them full of Febreze. Or better, relish the aroma - proves you're a
man.

Holy ****. In the deranged mind of this dickless coward, stinky
gloves proves you are manly.
Irony meter blows the containment dome.
One thing for su if he ever sees me in person, he'll relish the
aroma of his own bowels voiding, proving he is not and never will be a
man.

Makes sense. I have been sweating most days when skiing at Big Bear
this year. I noticed it yesterday when I took the gloves off to put
on sunscreen and my hands were stinky.

I put some powder meant for shoes in them.
