It is for me. My knees always swelled up when I went skiing untul I
cut dowm on the running and switched to hiking in hills.

I have lousy knees, both mcl's have been destroyed via skiing

Skiing? *Or falling?

Falling...both times totally unnecessarily, once by a boarder who
blind sided me, the second by a beginner who was on a black and had no
place being there

I sprained my shoulder once taking a mid-day nap on a ski day, but I
never thought of it as a skiing injury.

that must have a rather athletic nap.

Due to bad weather and slow traffic, I didn't get to bed until about
3AM. Since we were staying at Mammoth Mt. Inn across the parking lot
from the lifts, I came back at lunch time to eat with the family, and
took a nap. I slept on my right side with my arm under my head, and
when I woke up, my arm was "asleep" from the neck down to my
fingertips. Since I couldn't feel anything, I wrenched my shoulder
pushing out of bed and didn't know it for a few minutes until the
feeling returned.

The season is slowly coming to an end, to keep in shape I typically
run (very early mornings) and mountain bike, with the odd game of
golf and some hiking. I would golf more often if I could but its
difficult to coordinate consistent tee off's with everyone's busy
schedule. I have been thinking of scaling back the golf even
further and getting into rock climbing. Any climbers out there? How
did you get into the sport?

Join a rock gym, sign up with a beginner's climber's class group, like
the Mountaineers or through the Alpine Club of Canada, etc.

here is an example of a rock gym in Ballard, aka a neighborhood in
Seattle

http://www.stonegardens.com/

Are there active climbing clubs you get together with, or do
you head out alone?

If you are a neophyte, start on a rock wall, learn the techniques,
start off on really easy known routes with lots of holds.

One reason why many rock climbers I know are hard core yoga fanatics,
because they need the stretching ability for some of the climbs they
do in the North Cascades and Squamish.

If any exercise that is low impact, great benefits, and pretty hard
workout, I would probably put Yoga up there, given it helps so much.

When I took the Mountaineers basic climbing class many years ago, I discovered
the perfect back exercise. My back muscles were all sore after the the first
rock climbing practice. I could immediately tell from the pain that I wasn't
going to have any of the horrible back spasms I previously had, after the
exercise/stretching that climbing provided.

Not sure why my back is sore (perhaps from my one unfortunate attempt at
landing properly after an inadvertent launch into the air) but it's
worse when I just get out of bed. A local chiropractor is offering free
trials AND a meal at a nice Mexican restaurant tonight, so maybe I'll
give it a shot.

Going to SS or BM Thursday with friend with new skis. Hope it's not as
warm as I'm afraid it will be :-(

Hmmm, predicting a liquid snow event. I'll
have to keep watch. Today may have been my
last for a week or so.

Certes! I've asked about this before in an appropriate newsgroup but
never got a GOOD (both accurate and artistic) translation. Illegitimus
is a single *******, multiples are illegitimi, and it/they should really
be in the ablative case :-)
