Need Recommendations (March trip)
Hi,
Long time lurker, first time poster. Please be kind...or at least not too unkind :-) I've finally talked my wife into a week ski trip in March. Here's the situation... I want to go to Powder Mountain and stay slopeside. I know about the sharks, jellyfish and eels and am willing to deal with them since I've only been on "real" snow once (at Sunday River in Maine). The rest has been on east coast ice at Snowshoe and the like. But enough about me, let's talk about my wife. She's concerned that there isn't that much to do if you stay on the mountain at PM. I don't really understand her point, because I'm going to be too tired after 8 hours/day skiing to worry about restaurants, hot tubs and the like, but I'd like to make the trip enjoyable for all. We're a family of three (14 YO snowboarder - who boards, not sits) and we're intermediate skiiers. I really don't want to go somewhere all that expensive, I just want good snow. So, since I've rambled enough, here's my questions: 1. Is there really nothing to do but ski at Powder Mountain? Is staying at a condo off the mountain a good alternative? 2. Can someone suggest a good resort besides there that is not too expensive? Expensive is OK, but no Vail, please (no offense intended). It doesn't have to be in Utah. 3. That's about it. Take care all! Cheers, Rob |

I would go to Park City to keep the wife and kids happy. You will get enough skiing in. -- Mike Treseler |

Need Recommendations (March trip)
Go to Snowmass, stay at the Wildwood which is pretty well priced for
aspen/snowmass. Full breakfast is included. They have hottub, a few restaurants/shops right there in the pedestrian mall. Take the shuttle into Aspen at night if you want nicer. Use the gym/spa at the fancy hotel next door (nominal chargefor gym, not so nominal charge for mesage) . Snowmass is an intermediate skiers paradise--miles of crusising runs. Take care all! Cheers, Rob 1. There is NOTHING after 5pm to do other than rest from all the bottomless powder. Check out Wolf Creek condos just down the road to see if that is better for you. 2. Why not stay in Park City which has the shops/etc... You have 9 resorts within an hours drive to choose from and hit the resort that has the best snow that night - or try them all. 3. My wife liked Breckenridge - ski for half a day and then walk to town for lunch/shopping (they have a great local bookstore there she loved) |
