Did they let her board at Deer Valley when they were there? I know they stayed on the slopes there. If I remember, they skied and managed to remain annonymous. |

If I think back, that seems to be more a statistic of circumstance than outright rejection. How many actually had the chance? Carter? Yeah right. Eisenhower? For many years now, when a sitting or former governor has been a candidate for President, he has won the election. Carter '76, Reagan '80 and '84, Clinton '92 and '96, Bush '00. I'd call that a trend. Doubtless personall revulsion??????? NOT! They're peas in a pod. Gore has daughters about Monica's age. Think about that for a minute. I have to admit that the more I saw of Gore in '00, the less I liked him, and I'm a Democrat. He seems quite hardened and cynical, like a person who would say anything he thinks would get him votes. I felt the same way about Bush Sr too. I have a theory that it's the Vice Presidency that does that to people. 8 long years of having to submerge your own political personality in someone else's. I know it's not always going to be like this, but I've been a Macintosh guy since the Mac SE in 1985. I now use G4 laptops and have a cool little G4 "desklamp" iMac with a 17 inch screen running OS X. My computing habits are a akin to San Francisco bathhouse afficiando circa 1980. Because of my operating system, I've been spared virus attacks all this time, whilst my Windows friends reformat and reformat again and again. I know the Mac vs Windows debate is well covered... well, everywhere else o'er the internet. Just my experience. Your milage may vary. At participating Red Lobsters only. Etc. Philosophically I agree with you. My favorite-ever computer is the Amiga 1000 lying dead in the garage. Next favorite is the Macintosh + that the school ditrict refused to accept donation of, lying unused in the covered patio room. Due to commercial inertia and laziness, I currently have 2 PCs sitting on this desk, and both run Windows. I decided not get an XP machine until it had matured beyond the startup bugs. Within 2 weeks, it was crippled by msblast (now since restored, patched, and ?protected?). |

All well and good: until you realize that a) Macs are unix inside now b) Linux is winning share c) When sufficient share is attained (for some value of sufficient) the rogues will attack linux attack unix attack Mac Yeah, but Linux is, from what I can see, more carefully engineered than Windows. Torvalds and his crowd take more pride in craft than the Redmond crew, whose criterion of success is being able to blow as much code out of your ass in as short a time as possible. In the Microsoft world, you will get more features sooner (whether you need them or not) but you will also get more bugs and flaws. And the bugs are there to stay: kill one and another one will pop up. It's what you get from designing things too quick and building them too quick. The house of Redmond is termite-ridden. On the other hand, the gilt touches in the bathroom fixtures are great. Dave |

Yeah, but Linux is, from what I can see, more carefully engineered than Windows. No question. Absolutely. More secure, more robust, more efficient. More of everything except featurecreep; except Bill lives within 50miles of skiing and Linus is (is he still?) stuck in San Jose. So not more of skiing. So: who's run into Bill on the slopes at Crystal? Schmuck is probably a boarder, since he's always in too much of a hurry to do anything that's either hard or takes time. I thought that the MS crowd went to Whistler. I know they codenamed one of the Windows releases "Blackcomb". Is that the release that was set off by the MSBlaster? It buried a couple of clients of mine, but they're digging themselves out and should be OK. That was just a little point release, but the big Windows slabs, now, they're scary. bw |

"The Real Bev" wrote in message ... BTW, have they turned the east coast back on yet? Everything seems way slower tonight. Is it the msblast virus attack? My computer at work got hit, behind a very expensive layers of protection layer. Corporate IT was running all over our building cleaning out machines. They suspect that people taking notebooks home get infected there, then walk the virus right into the building everyday. I suspect it was the power outage, throwing traffic into areas that weren't hit. CIS was down for a long time, but my local newsfeed was OK, if slower than usual. Couldn't connect to Drudge or the WashPost AP feed at all. One of the automatic layers of protection that clicked in prohibited my computer from downloading the MS patch to fix it. Seems that MS is not on the "trusted server" list. Some things are just intuitively right. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the M$ victims tomorrow. -- Cheers, Bev ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~ Rule 18: Always tip your hat before striking a lady. |

The Real Bev wrote: Keillor has always tossed in little political digs, which as far as I'm concerned means he forfeits any government money at all, as should the NPR stations that carry him. You need to go back and reread Fahrenheit 451. I would hope my tax money supports critical dialog, otherwise media will end up as a mish mash of trivial 15 second blurbs of no value, kinda like the commercial stations. Dialog requires two participants with differint viewpoints. Doesn't happen on NPR, just a lot of liberals patting one another on the back for their virtue. But I really like Keillor's joke show, the Lake Wobegon bits, the guy who does the sounds and the fiddler who plays classical music in various styles. -- Cheers, Bev ================================================== =============== "There's an apocryphal (I hope not !) story about a Bristol bike thief found cold, wet and bedraggled one morning, D locked by the neck to a local bridge." -- Anon |

Didn't you think that Ford was a decent guy? I did. The more I think about it, the more I think that ALL politicians should be limited to one term. I haven't figured out how to eliminate bribery, of course, but I'm working on it. -- Cheers, Bev ================================================== =============== "There's an apocryphal (I hope not !) story about a Bristol bike thief found cold, wet and bedraggled one morning, D locked by the neck to a local bridge." -- Anon |
