Minimum two meters.

Unless you're one of those modernists. Those guys all ski on shorty skis
down around 180 centimeters or even less.

Actually if you are just starting, RENT. Take the shop's advice for size
the first few times. RENT until you start skiing more than 10 time for a
couple of years straight - then look into skis. By then you will know
what's what. Even so, buy good boots first, not skis.

Go to some of the ski sites, for instance Volkl , and they will tell you for
and Intermediate something like to the tip of your your nose.

How fat are you? Height (leverage) is one thing, but weight counts for more
on the ski.

If you are new to skiing, however, rent, or buy something really cheap that
comes up to between your chin and nose. If you keep improving, you'll be
wanting something more responsive before long. Longer, will depend on how
you ski and the ski you're on.

If you're new to skiing and around 5'9" and average weight, I'll say
you should ski on something like a 172 or 178. You may even go shorter
at first until you get better. As these guys said, you should
definitely rent stuff first to see what's comfortable.

I am 6'2", 200 lbs; formerly really good skier, now pretty good. My
previous skis were 193 fat skis and I got new ones last spring which
are a few cm shorter if I'm not mistaken.

Good luck!

Chris

Thank you all for the advices. I will check the rental shop first...
