Default Tales Of Derring-Do

Has anyone done anything remotely exciting on skis lately?

Had an interesting bit of combat-skiing myself last week down from the
back-side of Le Tour (Chamonix) ending up at the border crossing, above
the hydro-electric power station. (For future reference we should have
gone right at the small reservoir, NOT left). The Swiss border guards
seemed a bit bemused, but did not stop us strolling by, as nonchalantly
as we could, back into France. Took a good few hours to get all the
twigs out of our gear though.

We got a passing taxi to take us to Vallorcine only to find that the
lift had broken down, so we had a nice lunch and took the train back.
I can recommend the restaurant in Vallorcine by the rail-station, but
don't expect to get good service if you speak to the waiter in English
(however loudly) as he complained to us in French about an English
party (they who believed that the comprehension of English is improved
with increased, braying volume) who tried to do a runner without paying
the bill. I claimed to be American, which in the circumstances was
more acceptable, and believable as we looked like we'd just returned
from a war zone.

Sammy.
