Default French skiing experiences

Through this post I'm hoping to connect with those members of this newsgroup
who have some experience of France and will want to join in with the Sharing
France project.

This is not a commercial ad. Total France.com is a non-commercial site run
by Francophile volunteers. Our main aim is the sharing of France-related
information.

The 'Sharing France' Project is a collaborative effort among Francophiles,
geared towards collecting and disseminating 'verbal histories' in an
interesting and entertaining way.

The project has been started with the aim of collecting together first-hand
experiences - of visiting, living in or working in France - and publishing
them, in electronic book form, for the information and enjoyment of
Francophiles everywhere; in particular those new to France.

So, do you have an amusing, sad, moving, informative or cautionary story
about any aspect of visiting or living in France? Perhaps your mixed
feelings about buying an alpine apartment; or the sudden realisation that
Meribel isn't the resort it once was? The difficulties with French medical
care; or your decision to move their permanently because the skiing's so
great? Whatever the story, we'd be delighted if you came and shared it with
the project.

Full details (including submission procedures) available at:
http://www.totalfrance.com/france/fo...opic.php?t=516

Anyone can contribute - you don't have to be a Mark Twain or a Jane Austen -
and there are no pre-conditions about style or content. There are no
conditions about length - six lines to six chapters, it's up to you. This is
not a writing competition but an information-gathering project. If your
story is of interest then come and share it with interested people!

Full credit will be given to all contributors - except those who desire
anonymity - and Francophiles everywhere will be able to download the
finished compilation, free of charge, direct to their PCs.

To make the project more fun, and to acknowledge your input, the first
entries will receive a prize. So will the best of the contributions overall.

We look forward to reading your contribution.

Are you refering to the Concorde crash? If so, I thought that was
(allegedly) due to a pice of debris from an American airliner which took
off a few minutes earlier. Can't really blame the French for that.

The French certainly do seem to employ the most misserable car hire
company staff I have ever enountered.

Nope

The French maintenance of their Concordes was shameful. And, with
refernece to the crash, the pilot flying the plane shouldn't have eben
as he hadn't undergone his obligatory medical....

Oh yes. You are so right.

The UK part of the invesitgation concluded that Concorde was overloaded
- about 110 tonnes rather than 100 tonnes and used remould tires. The
pilot should have unloaded cargo and passengers before takeoff - but
financial pressures within Air France, who were running Concorde as a
charter flight for German tourists, made this impossible.

The 'debris' (in truth a small strip of metal) should not have caused a
catastrophic accident and probably wouldn't have done if Air Chance had
followed proper operating practises and if CdG inspected the runways
more regularly.

If the plane had not been overloaded it may have been able to fly on the
two remaining reactors and make an emergency landing at Bourget as the
pilot intended. Although the flames looked very severe it was just
burning kerosene, shutting the fuel supply would have stopped the fire.

While I agree that it was pore operating standards, especially the
remoulded tyres, The wheel shimmer, The luggage overload and the down
wind take of on a short runway .
Shutting the fuel supply would not have helped as the main tank was
punctured by tyre debris.

The two left engines staled, choking on the hot gas being sucked in
before the pilots realised the problem.

Concord can not climb on two engines, the asermectric thrust gave a
sharp left tern and it was all over.

I think you're too gullible.
