Burton Code or Salomon Prospect
Hi all,
At the end of last season I bought a 2nd hand Burton Ride (I think), its a 162. I normally ride around a 158/160, but the board was so cheap I just went for it anyway. I haven't used it yet, will be doing so in Decemeber (Xmas) in Chamonix. Anyway. I'm looking at also buying a slightly shorter board as well and have got two good options on two 2nd hand boards. One is a Salomon Prospect 157. I'm not sure what year the board is, but here is a picture of it: http://i4.ebayimg.com/01/i/02/af/8c/8e_1_b.JPG I also have the option of getting a 2nd hand 2003 Burton Code 159. The Salomon will be about £20 ($30ish probably) more expensive than the code. I'm more of a mountain rider and carver than a park/pipe rider. I've got a pair of quite chunky Vans, size 9.5 (UK) and Flow Amp 9 bindings. I'm about 5'10 and 78kgs. Just looking for an opinion here (as I can't afford both!) which one do you think I should go for or is there little difference? Thanks in advance. Mike |

Mike Both boards are park/pipe boards... but Burton is much more freestyle oriented with it's signature sub-8m sidecuts (a tiny 7.8 on the Code 159) where as Salomon Prospect 157 has a more intermediate 8.4m sidecut. Because of that, I would suggest you go for the Salomon. A longer sidecut will give you more stability at higher speeds (hitting the steeps and carving the groomers). A board with a short sidecut is better for quicker, flick-turns at slower speeds... like when you are going between trees, lining up for a rail, and hitting jumps. On the flip-sides... a longer sidecut will feel unwieldy if you aren't strong enough to flex the board enough to get tigher tights, and a shorter sidecut will feel very nervous at higher speeds if you aren't a confidant riders with shock absorbing legs (it will begin to flap a little as it overflexes in the higher G-s). Good luck |
