Just got back from Winterplace -- Any good skiing in this part of the country?

Hi All,

I live in the Triad area of NC and have been to the ski resorts in Boone and
they are not good.

I normally go once or twice a year to SLC and ski Alta, Snowbird, and
surronding resorts.

However, this year I dont have any western trips planned so I decided to try
Winterplace.

The good:

It was not crowded on a Thursday
It had a decent base (for this part of the country)
I can be there in about 2 1/2 hours

The bad:

Only had 3 black diamonds open
It seems to take about two minutes to ski from the top to the bottom
The lifts were unbelieveably slow
The snow makers constantly blow in your face
Nothing challenging or interesting. Flat out boring.

I have not been to snowshoe (which is 5 1/2 hours from here) in so long that
I honestly dont remember what it is like. I have seen posts from people
saying the slopes are 2-3 times longer at Snowshoe.

I guess 2-3 times longer than 2 minutes doesnt add up to alot but I am
willing to listen to anyone who has been to both!

Are there any other ski resorts within 6 hours of the Triad worth anything
for an experienced skier?

And just fot the record for people doing searches on Winterplace. It is a
nice small resort and ideal to take small kids if it is within a couple of
hours of you. However, DO NOT go there if you want anything other than
short easy slopes.
