OK, then just give me suggestions for ski rentals, night life, train times
(will there be any?) and rentals cars. Do I get snow tyres and roof rack?
Will I be able to use my Swiss Francs in Blair's 2021 vision of the UK or
will it be the US $ :-)

Oh yes - any idea of lift passes - should I bring a photo?

steady there, slow down, don't leap in until you've checked out the
mobile phone coverage, whether there's an ATM or an Internet Cafe and if
there's somewhere you get Swiss food....

Crikey, yes. Imagine a ski holiday in Britain. Awful.

Unlikely... Simon complains about the cold and snow in Laax... he's hardly
going to move to somewhere colder, with less mountains, and English
people.

Well according to our friends at the erstwhile guardian/observer
Britain will be 'Siberian' in less than 20 years which will, I guess,
make it too cold for skiing.

Another quote I like in the article:
"As early as next year widespread flooding by a rise in sea levels
will create major upheaval for millions"
well that sounds like a statement of fact to me: if it occurs I'll
become a fully paid up member of Greenpeace and take out an annual
subscription to The Guardian.

If the sea level is going up then I'm going to have to move, I'm just about
under it at the moment. Maybe I'll move to one of the up and coming UK ski
resorts, somewhere high and with guaranteed snow like Derbyshire would be.

There is a portable rope tow used at Elton in the Peak District, I lived
in the next village but never went. The YHA at Edale I think runs XC and
telemark from time to time, and whenever I took the Tele's out I'd
probably see other people likewise.

Been wondering... if the weather's going to turn Siberian in the UK,
what does it have in store for the Alps?

Basel will become Switzerland's premier ski resort, with the likes of
Zermatt and Verbier reduced to mountain hut status for the big boys
only. Ski-touring will blossom, as will backcountry snowmobiling.

Most of the high-mountain lifts, railways and cable cars will only run
in the summer, when there will be as much skiing as the current winter
season - at last it will be possible to ski in August without being
squeezed out by race teams in training.

And about twenty years on, Britain will have become the foremost
nation in Alpine skiing competitions, with the likes of France and
Austria struggling to keep pace with the changes.

Or perhaps not. The Siberian weather patterns predicted in the UK are due to
the diversion of the jetstream and gulfstream further south. This will have
the opposite effect in the Alps with higher temperatures and wetter weather.
