Default Trip Report - Val Thorens

Just returned after a week in Val Thorens. First day (sun 11 Feb) was ok.
Then it started snowing and it still hadn't stopped by the time we left
today (Sat 17). Never thought I'd ever be ****ed off at too much snow on a
ski trip. There were only a fraction of lifts open each day and the link to
the rest of the 3-valleys was closed the whole time. To cap it off the trip
back to Moutiers today took 3 hrs (usually 45 mins) and we missed Eurostar
on the way back.

The lift company did give us a 4 day 3-valleys voucher as compensation (they
didn't advertise this, just gave it you if you asked). Quite good of them I
thought as we did actually get in way more than 2 days skiing on the 6 day
lift pass even though it was very restricted.

Great snow though: whoever gets there by the time the weather clears up will
have a great time.

Only if they don't get a similar week!

What a difference the next valley & trees makes. I spent the
equivalent time in La Tania and we had great skiing every day with up
to knee deep powder on and off piste for all thursday, friday and
saturday. Courchevel 1650 area was excellent also although no high
lifts, eg Saulire, were open.

Then Meribel, which is where we're going in a fortnight (I know, I
didn't choose it!) should be a reasonable compromise.

Unless it's raining and windy, of course.

Interesting to hear Courcheval 1650 was excellent (was anyone here in
Meribel that week?) - it was my first trip to the 3-valleys and I really
wanted to check out the whole area. Oh well, will just have to make use of
my compensation voucher asap (though it has no expiry date so I could keep
it for use when I'm an oap which is who some people seem to think the 3-v is
good for ).
