Default Max O2 records

Aftenposten reports this morning that one of the young skiers on the
norwegian team, Espen Harald Bjerke, had extremely high max O2 numbers a
couple of weeks ago, when the entire team was tested in Lillehammer:

He stopped at 96 ml O2/kg bodyweight, which (according to the article)
is identical to the highest level Bjørn Dæhlie ever achieved.

Isn't this the highest that have ever been reported in any (human) sport?

He was a professional doper who raced bicycles.
A fraud in a sport filled with frauds.Sadly.

See above, a well-known abuser of 'spicie food', i.e. doping.

Re. people with high Max O2:

My wife hosted a little reunion of coworkers (from a now-defunct
company) last night, one of them (her former boss) was Rolf Thorsen.

Rolf has three world championships and two olympic silvers in rowing
(1988 and 1992), but he is/was also a pretty good skier, particularly on
courses with a lot of double-poling. (I wonder why?)

He still exudes a lot of the confidence you can notice in _very_ fit
athletes. :-)

That can be very annoying because it tends to strip one of the
confidence that one feels as a relatively highly fit hobby athlete
amidst average or sedentary persons:-)
