Where to get it and how it works? Anyone has an actual experience?

what are you trying to do?

many of the windows programs will only use certain codec
many of the paid programs will use more and some of the exotic ones
I use adobe premier pro for video editing and assembly
Linux has many open source or free programs.

details please-- many codec issues are bad source file the one your
trying to view

just for a reminder GOOGLE is your friend

Note The MPEG2 format has several codecs that are not supported by
Windows Movie Maker. Even if you have downloaded and installed these
codecs on your ...

Try using VLC it is free and can run just about everything.

Yes, MPEG-2 Codec will allow you to open MPEG-2 (DVD,SVCD,VOB) files
in TMPGEnc and in MS Media Player, plus a host of other programs. This
is very old and buggy so try instead ffdshow or Dscaler Mpeg Filter.

Google for the K-lite codec pack. It supports many codecs for Windows
Media Player. You really only need the Lite version.

Thanks for all of you who replied. Did the google, after some study
downloaded and installed K-lite codec pack, and it appears working.
Now, I can "play" with windows movie maker.
