Default super cheap homemade snowboard

Im looking into making a really cheap snowboard. Would it work to steam
bend a piece of 1/2" plywood, coat it with polyurethan, and glue a
piece of formica to the bottom? I already have all these materials,
plus a pair of bindings. Any thoughts?

I've got used ones w/ bindings here at the shop for less than $50.

What would be the best way to put some metal edges on it? I think my
main question was wether the formica would slide well. And yes, I am
just going to use this in my backyard

Not as well as PTFE. Have you seen any commercially available boards
with Formica bases?
