Default Ski with a Red Headlamp

I took a final run in the dark yesterday, and was on the fence about
whether my standard halogen headlamp helped or hurt. (Could see about
one turn ahead of me, but my ability to see far ahead was wiped out by
the light.)

Saw a guy come down with a bright red lensed headlamp and as I couldn't
catch up with him to talk, wondered if anyone had experience skiing
with a red light. Besides looking cool, does, theoretically, seem like
a good concept to keep your night vision...

Thanks in advance,

Jon
