Default Salomon over NIS plates Kick zone lengths

RCS Cold. Though these were a matched pair for flex, Boulder Nordic
told me that they had found greater variance between skis in where the
bindings sit with NIS than regular, which showed with the pair I tried
(1.2 cm difference). I ended up returning the pair to wait (or look
for) a non-NIS pair. But the experience was invaluable, both a relief
and revelation, since in 16 years of skiing I've never had a classic
pair that fit me properly. Btw, neither shop I consulted fitted with
the standard board, and I was present for one fitting. Rather, they only
use(d) a flex tester to measure camber at half-weight (.4mm) and
additional force needed to close the skis as in kicking (.2mm), plus
visually and manually looking at the way the skis close. That's the way
it should be, tho it's still possible in the wrong hands to screw it up.

JFT, I didn't realize Madshus only comes in NIS, at least in the
States. Same thing appears to be the case for Rossi. It's definitely
one way to force customers to try their boots, but it does seem
counterproductive since boot fit and ski fit are independent.

You are correct that the internal mounting plate is not put into the
NIS skis. The NIS skis do weigh a couple of grams less than flat skis.
I don't know about the differences in kicking ability of skis with NIS
and those without. Fischer is the only manufacturer that makes both.
What ski were you skiing?
