Are cap skis strong?
I'll try to ask this another way.
Weaker or stronger than woodcore? By how much? Suitable for touring. They seem perhaps lighter---that true? Light is good on tour. --JP |

Are cap skis strong?
no.
They are out there because they are cheaper to produce. Basically, a "cap" ski is a piece of molded plastic filled with foam and closed with a base. A few fibers (maybe carbon) here and there, so they'll last arround two years. A real good usage of "cap" is to make it completely out of carbon fiber because apart from other qualities, carbon it much stronger and won't age like plastic. Such skis exist : LC4 from Vandel http://www.ski-vandel.com/ |
