Helmet legislation.....what's the law?
Taking family to Cham this time....just wondering what the current
legislation is about ski helmets. I can't stand em myself and have enough trouble trying to get the girls (12 and 14) to wear cycle helmets! As we will be skiing in Italy/France and Switzerland I though I'd better find out if I need to fork out 60 quid for a pair of helmets. I know there have recently been campaigns to persuade people to wear them, but is there yet any legal requirement in either of these countries? Thanks, John |

Have you ever tried wearing a helmet while skiing?
I recently bought one and it is great, it keeps your head warm and holds your goggles in place well.. I can understand if you don't want to wear a helmet, but its pretty irresponsible in my opinion to allow 12 and 14 year old girls to go on the slopes without them.. I'm curious - why are 12 and 14 year old girls so liable to injury as opposed to 11, 13 or 15 year old girls or 12 & 14 year old boys? Perhaps 12 & 14 year old girls should be banned from the slopes. If you could show a correlation between accidents and "the time of the month" would you ban women from the slopes at that time? Where do you draw the line? Who draws the line? |

If we are really so concerned about safety maybe we should all wear yellow
"high visibility" jackets, just like the guys digging up the roads, then nobody will crash in to anybody else. Come that what about body armour - all the resorts sell it for racers. Since they are undoubtedly at greater risk of injury if they go skiing than if they don't, surely it's "pretty irresponsible" to take them at all. Jeremy |

Soooo, (avoiding the flames on the later thread) what's the best type of helmet for adults to wear? My wife and I have both cycling helmets and climbing (Alpine) helmets - I guess the cycling ones are more comfortable and aerodynamic (not that I deliberately ski fast) but is there a special type recommended for (adult) skiing? What's the point of a thread that deals with 2 specific individuals rather than a general issue. 4. If you read my other reply somewhere in this thread you would see how this supports my view on the insidious pressures that will eventually remove all freedom to do anything: By saying it is irresponsible he puts pressure on other parents of teenage daughters regardless of any cost benefit analysis. Perversely this kind of pressure tends to be stronger the less general it is. -- Alex Heney, Global Villager Surely an oxymoron. A diplomat thinks twice before saying nothing. I wont bother making conversation with any diplomats then. |
