New Zealand - Any Suggestions???
I know most of us are eagerly awaiting the start of the skiing season in the
Northern Hemisphere (me included), but I could do with some suggestions as to what New Zealand is like for skiing, for next summer!!!! I will be in Queenstown in September 2005, and aim to sneak in a few days skiing (whilst everyone back home is still enjoying summer)!!! I am a fairly experienced skier, and wonder whether I will be disappointed by the lift served skiing (when compared to Europe and the Rockies)? I 've been on all the websites, but it's really hard to get a feeling of what it's like (ski stations look really small). We will be backpacking, so no chance of taking kit with us - will we be able to hire suitable clothing? Any suggestions would be welcomed - thanks. Simon Dolby |

Yep, fields are much smaller but fewer people so still fun. At least around
Queenstown you have a choice of fields so you won't need to ski the same run more than 20 times or so. It is possible to hire all the kit you need even down to gloves. All the main ski fields (Cardrona, Treble Cone and Remarkables) have good web sites giving you an idea of facilities and costs etc. Or try www.snow.co.nz Season usually runs mid June to mid October. Queentown is a very tacky tourist town set in a beautifull are .Well it was
in 1990 so god knows what it is like now . The skiing aorund Queentown is not uop to much . Treble Cone being the best but its not close . Mt Hutt is much better and even the resorts on the North Island. IMHO I 'd go to South America unless you can affford a Helicopter to access the best NZ has to offer ! Thanks - we're in Australasia as part of a round the world trip, and I liked
the idea of skiing, when everyone back home is on the beach!!!! The purpose of the trip is not to ski - but for the odd day, it sounds like it might be fun. "Nigel" wrote in message ...
