I was wondering; given the same snow and path; which is faster Skis or Snowboards? gr Check the record book: Highest Speed on a Snowboard The highest recorded speed by a snowboarder is 201.907km/h (125.459mph) by Darren Powell (Australia) at Les Arcs, France on 2 May 1999. Highest Speed on skis Simone Origone (Italy) 251.4 km/h (156.2 mph); Les Arcs, France, April 2006 |

Now to further question; is it the sq. inches of P-tex that makes the difference? For XC skis, the best gliders are the extremely narrow racing skis (48mm wide!). So maybe narrow downhill skis would be faster, or narrower snowboard faster, or a mono-ski faster than either! gr |

I imagine the same would apply to the speedrun boards. |

In raweb.com, wrote: I was wondering; given the same snow and path; which is faster Skis or Snowboards? gr I say skis, because double the edges and it less wind drag or a better wind drag coefficient being in a tuck on skis, with the right low drag coefficient helmet, compare to a snowboard, which probably has the wind resistance of a barn door. Hmm, I have yet to see a barn door traveling at 125 mph. |

Local area Mountain High instructors don't even mention the inadvisability of doing things like that to the students. *Just one more reason it's a crappy hill. My opinion of Mt. High is that it is not worth wasting a good skiing day, but that it might be ok for a weekday. Have you ever been there on a weekday? |

Highest Speed on skis Simone Origone (Italy) 251.4 km/h (156.2 mph); Les Arcs, France, April 2006 Interesting that no recent speed skiing meets have achieved better results? Formerly the record was creeping up yearly. Maybe FIS has stopped holding speed skiing meets? |
