Val di Fassa - Dolomites

Hi, have just booked into catered chalet in Val di Fassa. Never been before
so just wondering if anyone has any tips / comments on the area. We are
intermediate skiers. Are we best booking passes / school etc in resort or
before? Any favourite runs?

My favourite run is Val de Mesdi from Sas Pordoi to Colfosco. :-) You
need to be rather upperintermediate though. Anyway a tip from Passo
Pordoi to Sas Pordoi is a must (you can come back via cable car, can't
you?).

By an odd coincidence we were just looking at some photo's of the Val
Mesdi. Unless something altered since I did it then it's probably worth
pointing out it's off-piste and requires a walk-in from the Pordoi lift.
When I did it was after a huge fall of snow and the traverse in was a
bit hairy due to avalanche risk, it also has an incredible drop I forget
the exact numbers but quite something. The run proper drops in between
some amazing rock walls and it's really atmospheric.

I came back two years later but there was no enough snow (February)...

There are two more difficult but shorter off-pists from Sass Pordoi:
-under the cable car - which IS dificult but is the shortest and seems
to be the safest.
-the offpiste to LupoBianco (AFAIR) which I place, considering
safety/long/ dificulties factor, somewhere beetween the two first...
